Development The objective of the project is to develop and demonstrate the concept for an injection moulding based system and promote the technology through the associations to the European moulding sector. Development of the technology is funded in part by the European Commission. The Four European Plastic Industry Associations have joined forces to launch this project and development of the technology will be carried out by four RTD performers Pera (UK), FHG-TEG (Germany), AIMPLAS (Spain), and CESAP (Italy) Processing ConditionsUsing a mould cavity with a full shot weight of 60g and setting the barrel with a full shot of 65g, the Injection time was set to only fill the tool with 25g shot before changing over to hold pressure, leaving 40g of the shot in the barrel. Therefore a conventional short shot component will be produced with a shot weight of 25g. The use of ultrasonic vibration was investigated by applying it just prior to, and during injection. The ultrasonic is stopped once hold pressure is applied. Injection time speed and pressure remained unchanged. Mouldings were produced with and without the application of ultrasonic vibration.
The development work will also address the following technical questions:Ultrasonic System
